Iran and Syria sign defense cooperation pact

Every once in a while as I'm searching through the news I come across an article that just makes me sit back and go "Wow!!" as it deals with Bible prophecy. Well folks, this week I came across one of those articles. This news story was in all the major Israeli news outlets and it centered around Iran and Syria signing a defense cooperation pact whereby each pledged to come to the defense of the other. This is really huge news as we see the Iranian nuclear program situation coming to a climax and with the very real possibility that Israel could in fact make a move on Iran soon. The YnetNews website reports:
Syrian Defense Minister Ali Muhammad Habib and his Iranian counterpart, Ahmad Vahidi, have signed a military cooperation agreement, Iranian media reported Friday. The two countries agreed to appoint a joint committee to oversee the agreement's implementation. The deal was signed towards the end of the Iranian minister's visit to Syria. The two officials expressed their willingness to strengthen the military ties between the countries and noted that the cooperation would help expand the diplomatic, security and economic relations between Damascus and Tehran.
The article went on to detail the exact threat seen by Syria and Iran, which of course was no surprise to Bible prophecy watchers. The article pinpointed the threat to Syria and Iran as being no less than:
They vowed to join forces against the regional threat posed by "the Zionist regime", referring to Israel.
As many of you are aware of the end times prophecies of Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39, this news article just further confirms the tightening of the noose around the necks of Syria and Iran. With one fell swoop of a pen stroke, Syria probably sealed their prophetic fate according to the prophecies of Isaiah 17. Should Israel finally say "enough is enough" on the diplomatic effort to stop Iran and make a military move to stop Iran's nuclear program, we may very well see Syria step in to defend Iran. And of course, with the large number of chemical weapons Syria has and is able to launch into Israel, it doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to see the situation going downhill pretty fast. The prophet Isaiah says:
Isa 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
So as we can see from the words of the prophet Isaiah, Damascus has a date with destiny that will eventually be fulfilled. And with the signing of the defense agreement with Iran it doesn't look like Syria will be backing out of that date anytime soon, in fact it looks as though Syria is getting "dressed" for their date with destiny. The YnetNews article went on to say that Iran would strike back at strategic Israeli targets should the Jewish state attack their nuclear program. The article reported that:
Vahidi met Wednesday with Syrian President Bashar Assad and discussed the military cooperation between the two countries with him as well. During the visit, the minister was quoted as saying that Iran would strike back at Israeli weapons manufacturing sites and nuclear installations if the Jewish state attacks the Islamic republic's nuclear facilities.
Syria was also quoted as saying that they did not believe that Israel would dare to strike at Iran unless they had the support of the United States. The Syrians were reported to have said:
Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Shara estimated Thursday that Israel would not be able to attack Iran without the support of the United States. Speaking to heads of the ruling Ba'ath Party, al-Shara said that US President Barack Obama has tried to "restrain" Israel in order to prevent a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. "The Israelis, despite their (vast arsenal), were unable to force the Palestinian people in Gaza to surrender and wave the white flag," he stated.
With the wall clock ticking down quickly on the issue of the illegal Iranian nuclear program, the prophetic clock appears to be moving as well. We have mentioned here in the past that Syria has moved their state archives out of Damascus during previous conflicts in fear that Israel would destroy Damascus, probably with nuclear weapons. With all the recent drills and national exercises aimed at preparing Israelis for a potential chemical attack from her neighbors, the chances that we could see the prophetic fulfillment of Isaiah 17 and then Ezekiel 38-39 are very real and possibly very soon. Another point to make in all of this is that Russia also has defense pacts with Syria and Iran as well. To give an illustration of how serious all of this is, we can easily imagine the following scenario playing out:
1. Israel strikes Iran and their nuclear program with or without US help.
2. Syria, under the defense pact with Iran, strikes back at Israel using their stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons.
3. Israel nukes Damascus fulfilling Isaiah 17 as a result of the chemical and biological attack.
4. Russia and Iran lead a moslem coalition against Israel which leads to the prophetic fulfillment foretold in Ezekiel 38-39.
While this is simply a model of a possible scenario that occur in the not so distant future, only the Lord knows the details to how these prophecies will indeed be fulfilled. But we can see from the facts on the ground that the players are moving into position in order for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled. At the very least, we see movement of the prophetic puzzle pieces across the board. This is not the time for people to fall asleep at the prophetic wheel. With Israel beginning to move into a more nationalistic and defensive mindset or mode, we should see this as setting the stage for what is to possibly come. Israel has over the past months carried out some of the largest drills and exercises ever held in Israeli history in preparation for the various threats from it's neighbors. To me, there is a reason for that and that is that prophecy is about to be fulfilled. Israel simply can't afford to allow Iran to become a nuclear power and that will ultimately lead to conflict in my honest opinion.
With the Christmas holiday season right around the corner, let me remind folks to keep one eye on the situation in the Middle East during these holidays. I believe that when the world least expects it, that things will suddenly break out in conflict and go downhill. The average citizen on the street has no idea what the Bible says on prophetic issues and neither do they pay any attention to what is happening in the Middle East. Many will be caught unawares. Whether things may erupt later this month or early next year, we need to be like watchmen on the city walls alerting all to the prophetic word of God and the fact that we are living in the last days.
