Clinton and Obama Pulled 'Bait and Switch' on Netanyahu
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
An interesting news article today cites a report that U.S. President Obama and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pulled a "bait and switch" on Netanyahu during recent talks about a second round of a construction freeze in the West Bank. Apparently all the facts that were relayed in the media which consisted of a second squadron of F-35 jets and a promise to not ask for any additional construction freezes after the 90 day pause were apparently not true. News is coming out now that the promises made by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were not approved by the Obama administration and there for they are not valid. An Israel National News article reported:
As Israel waits for a letter clarifying America's guarantees in exchange for a proposed building ban for Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, a diplomatic source has come forward saying that no such letter is on its way. United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton misled Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and contrary to reports, the U.S. does not guarantee an end to the freeze, the source said.
The source, a senior diplomat with inside knowledge of Netanyahu's recent meetings in Washington, said Clinton made commitments when talking to Netanyahu, but later slipped out of them by claiming that she had not been speaking on behalf of U.S. President Obama – who, she said in the end, did not give his approval.
When Netanyahu called the State Department to clarify America's position, officials expressed surprise at his surprise, the source continued. While Clinton made promises, Netanyahu knew from the beginning that Obama has the final word, they allegedly said.
Clinton had told Netanyahu that the proposed construction freeze would last for three months, and that it would end regardless of whether or not there was progress in talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. After that, she said, America would not push for a third building freeze.
However, according to the diplomat, U.S. leaders have since said that the building ban for Jews in Judea and Samaria would only end if Israel and the PA reached an agreement on the borders of a proposed PA state.
To further go on about this "bait and switch" tactic it is now being reported that the F-35 jets that were promised are not actually free and that Israel will have to purchase them from the U.S. This shift of promises shows that the current U.S. administration can't be trusted when it concerns Israel. U.S. President Obama is clearly fulfilling his pledge in his book he wrote when he said that when the political winds blew, he would stand with the Islamics. This is surely the case and it is my hope that the Israelis see that they can't trust nor fall back on anything that is promised to them by the current Barack Hussein Obama administration.
To make matter worse, this sort of "bait and switch" lying to the Israelis will not go over well with God as he clearly states in Genesis 12:3 that he will "bless those that bless thee, and curse those who curse thee". It sure seems to me that the Hussein Obama administration is definitely asking for a curse from the God of Israel. While none of this should be a surprise to us who have been watching the situation, it appears to me that while Netanyahu worked hard to possibly pass a second construction freeze, it appears the U.S. administration has turned it's shoulder on the Israelis. This sort of behavior is tasteless and is more fo the same kind of behavior that occurred when Netanyahu visited Washington and was given the cold shoulder by the Obama administration.
It is my hope and desire that the Israelis do not further engage the U.S. administration in the Middle East "peace talks" as they have shown they are not reliable partners in getting the Palestinians to make concessions nor follow through with their obligations. If the Obama administration has their way they will continue to pressure Israel while not lifting a single finger to get the Palestinians to fulfill their duties. The article went on to further highlight the situation over the F-35 jets and other issues:
Several other American promises have been called into question as well. While it was initially reported that Israel would receive F-35 fighter jets in exchange for the freeze, Israeli ministers later clarified that the jets are part of a separate package, and that Israel will pay for them in full. It was also suggested that the construction ban would not apply to Jews living in Jerusalem; however, U.S. officials later stated that it would apply to all Jews living east of the 1949 armistice line, including those in Israel's capital city.
If America does not openly declare that a second construction freeze would end in three months with or without a deal with the PA, Netanyahu is unlikely to get the cabinet's support for the new construction ban. Ministers in Shas and within Netanyahu's own Likud party have already stated that they would vote against the proposal without a U.S. promise.
Without a new construction deal the Middle East peace talks will remain deadlocked and then only the Lord knows what will happen, but in light of previous history it is surely an indication that armed conflict will be coming shortly down the road. The Palestinians which comprise of Hamas in Gaza, Fatah in the West Bank, and Hezbollah along the Lebanese border will definitely make the next conflict one of epic proportions. The continued arms build up on the boarder will leave Israel with no alternative bu tot take off the "kid gloves" and deliver a devastating response to the new threat on the Israeli borders.
It is my opinion that the U.S. administration is playing "games" with the Israelis. A possible scenario is that Obama could be trying to break up Netanyahu's coalition with a second freeze, especially one that is not under the terms as originally indicated. This could cause the political pressure to increase so much that one or more groups could leave the Netanyahu coalition and thus render the government in a state of crisis. This is a possible scenario as the right leaning Israeli government is causing alot of political heartburn for the U.S. and international community as more and more emphasis is being put on finally finding a political solution to this major problem. It is also being suggested that if Israel gives into a second freeze that it could be a trap to put pressure on Israel to agree to borders with the Palestinians which would allow them to declare statehood and make things very difficult for Israel. This could even lead potentially to a forced solution when Israel is told to accept the current solution or walk away. This will be politically hard to do as the Obama administration would probably make it known that they would not support Israel in the UN. It is for this reason that I hope that given the recent elections where Obama was given a stinging defeat, that the Israelis can buy time and wait for a new U.S. administration that is more favorable and friendly to Israel. But I'm not sure we have that much time. I would sense that Obama will try to force Israel to do something long before that happens.
Let us continue to watch and pray for Israel and her leaders as they face tremendous political pressure to return to negotiations with the Palestinians and to reach a final deal. This is a deal that will result in a disaster for Israel. Let us pray for the peace of Israel and as always pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Stay tuned!
