Palestinians give Israel 2-3 weeks to decide on settlements or peace

Over the last week the US has experienced a political earthquake that saw the Democratic party lose their strong majority in the US House of Representatives. At the end of the election night was a dramatic remake of the Congress. The Republicans now strongly control the House while Democrats narrowly held on to their lead in the Senate. This political earthquake is sure to send a message around the world. One of the hottest topics for the election was the subject of Israel and the current Middle East peace process. While the current Middle East peace process remains stalemated, this didn't stop the Palestinians from issuing an ultimatum to Israel to decide peace and the current settlements that are of major importance to the Palestinians.
Despite the fact that the Palestinians have used the situation with the settlements as an excuse to possibly leave the peace talks, several parties including the Israelis have noted that the situation regarding the settlements is actually of no concern as the building is in areas that are expected to remain in a future Israeli state that sits next to a newly created Palestinian state. The main issue appears that the Palestinians are using the situation with the settlements as an excuse to walk away from the peace talks as Israel refuses to give in to ridiculous demands being made by the Palestinians. For example, while the Palestinians want the world to recognize a Palestinian state, the Palestinians refuse to recognize the already existent state of Israel. This sort of ridiculous behavior is clearly the kind of behavior that has resulted in the current political stalemate.
The YNetNews agency reports that the Palestinians have given Israel 2-3 weeks for them to make a decision for peace (according to the Palestinian definition of peace) or to continue on with the settlements. The newspaper reports:
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said the Palestinian Authority has given the US "two to three weeks" to persuade Israel to continue a moratorium on construction in West Bank settlements. "We are at the end of the game," he said. "It's time to make some tough decisions."
Erekat told the London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat in an interview published Saturday that no further good could come of peace talks with Israel until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made some difficult calls. "There's no use in negotiating further. The choice is (Netanyahu's) – either peace or settlements," said Erekat.
As we can see from these reports that inability or non-existent desire of the Palestinians to be flexible has all but destroyed the current peace process. The Palestinians have already in the past walked away from two opportunities to reach peace with Israel. This will be the third time should Israel refuse to expand the settlement freeze as demanded by the Palestinians. It appears to me that the only deal the Palestinians will accept is a deal that splits Israel in half and calls for the "right of return" for Palestinians who left Israel before the last wars. These Palestinians left on their own free will and with the encouragement of the surrounding Islamic countries.
I do not believe that as a result of this situation that the Palestinians have a single "right of return" as the Palestinians are demanding. It is my belief that if the Palestinians were sincere in reaching a peace agreement with Israel they would own up to their previous mistakes and move forward. However, this is not what the Palestinians are doing. As usual the Palestinians have gone into their default mode of blaming Israel for every little problem that arises, they never take any responsibility for themselves. The Palestinians live in a constant state of a victim mentality. The truth is they are the ones that have made the bed they must lie in.
Even after the overwhelming defeat of the Democrats in the recent elections, it appears that the Obama administration has no intention of laying off of Israel but instead will continue to pressure Israel to give up land for what is clearly not a genuine peace. Once this Palestinian state is created, if it is, it will just provide the Islamists with a spring board to attack Israel for a final chance of annihilation.
However, students of Bible prophecy know that the Bible says that once God brings the Jews back into the land again, he will never allow them to be destroyed nor dispersed again. So with this in mind, we know that any future attempts to wipe Israel off the map will be met with a strong response from God. The future fulfillments of the Isaiah 17, Psalm 83, and eventually Ezekiel 38-39 prophecies will ensure that Israel will remain strong and under the hand of the Almighty God of Israel.
Let us continue to watch the situation on the ground as we close in on the summit of the peace process. Something is bound to give and it is possible that we will see a major war in the near future. While we don't know the exact details, the Bible suggests that the current peace process will fail and that conflict is inevitable. Keep looking up, as the Bible warns that when we see these things taking place, to look up for our redemption is drawing nigh!
