The Rapture Report - Is the US going to bomb Iran?

Is the US going to bomb Iran?
Written: 10-7-2009
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris

Welcome to this edition of the Rapture Report. Today we will look at several interesting articles that could indicate more movement towards fulfillment of Bible prophecy. The first article that caught my eye was one that stated that the US might be getting ready to bomb Iran. This would hardly seem likely considering the liberal US administration's positions yet the report came from ABC News and from Pentagon activities. The Jerusalem Post website reports:

The US could be in the process of accelerating provisions for a possible attack on Iran, according to an ABC News report published Tuesday. The report cited a recent Pentagon decision to push for funding to build a "gargantuan bunker-busting bomb called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP)," originally planned for use in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pentagon's 2009 request, which was approved last week, was published by ABC, as well as the previous 2007 request.

To explain why the bomb was needed at this juncture, the Pentagon only said, "The Department has an Urgent Operational Need (UON) for the capability to strike hard and deeply buried targets in high threat environments. The MOP is the weapon of choice to meet the requirements of the UON." ABC noted that the departments which requested the MOP had responsibility over North Korea and Iran.

The report also stated that this weapon would be "ideally suited" for a strike on Iran's uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, or the recently revealed plant at Qom. US aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor McDonnell Douglas received a $51.9 million contract to build the four MOPs, the report said.

As we can see from the above article it appears that the US is trying to get four of these massive bombs for an "urgent operational need" in the current areas of military operations, which would include Iran. The number of bombs requested was intriguing as it seems that there are about four main Iranian nuclear facilities located at Natanz, Busheur, Esfahan, and now Qom. In the ABC News article it was noted that the bombs were to be placed on US stealth bombers:

The comptroller said the Pentagon planned to spend $19.1 million to procure four of the bombs, $28.3 million to accelerate the bomb's "development and testing", and $21 million to accelerate the integration of the bomb onto B-2 stealth bombers.

For me, this news certainly raises my eyebrows as it would be an unexpected development if the US were to be the ones to strike Iran or possibly be the ones to strike first followed by the Israeli Air Force doing the mop up job afterwards. However, that could end up being the case. Of course, no one knows for sure how things will play out but this is certainly a development that we need to keep watching. A strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities and the Iranian counter-attacks afterwards could easily spiral the world towards propehcy fulfillment in particularly that of Ezekiel 38-39.

In another bit of news that relates to the possible bombing of Iran, the Israel National News website is reporting that the US and Israel will practice preparations for an Iranian missile attack. The INN reports:

The joint missile defense exercise being prepared by Israel and the United States for next week will involve a mock missile strike by Iran, United Press International reported Tuesday. Air-defense technology and 15 naval vessels have already been deployed by the U.S. to Israel for the Juniper Cobra drill which the two countries conduct every two years since 2000. The exercise help the two nations coordinate their missile and air-defense activities.

The exercise is expected to deliver a "loud and clear" message to Iran, Maariv quoted a high-level Israeli military officer as saying. The drill will be overseen by a senior U.S. Army general and three Patriot missile defense systems may remain in Israel following completion of the exercise.

While the article noted that this is part of a regular two year exercise between the US and Israel, it would seem to me that the exercise could take on added emphasis with the currents developments in the Middle East, especially considering that the article noted that the PAC3 systems could stay behind after the exercise. That could be a clue that the US is helping to prepare the Israeli homeland for what is coming down the road.

Another unexpected news article today also came from the Israel National News and stated that the Iranians were planning to attack Gulf States in what might be a forward move in anticipation of a military strike on their nuclear facilities. The INN reports:

The MEMRI organziation has translated an Alarabiya.net report which says that 40,000 well-trained operatives, mostly Shi'ites, are in the service of Iran in the Arab Gulf states - 3,000 in Kuwait alone. The story is based on an interview with an Arab Ahwazi man who says he was a former undercover agent for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The assessment is in line with an intelligence report from an Iranian regime opposition group. The Ahwazi Islamic Sunni Organization says it has classified Iranian Air Force information that reveals Iran has a comprehensive military plan to attack the Gulf countries using MiG-31 aircraft that it purchased from Syria. It says Iran is preparing secret airports and camps in Ahwaz province, as well as forces in the northwest of the province, in order to attack Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

If a military strike occurs on the Iranian nuclear program it is expected that Iran will retaliate and that could mean that these 40,000 "well-train operatives" could swing into action in neighboring countries in an attempt to target Western interests and military bases. While Iran has threatened in the past to block the Straits of Hormuz if they were attacked, I'm not sure that they could effectively do this due to the strong presence of the US Navy and it's allies in the region. I would tend to believe that Iran would try to attack Israel by means of their long range missiles as Iraq did in the first Gulf War. This is where leaving the Patriot missile systems behind after the military exercise next week could be crucial.

Regardless of what happens and only the Lord knows for sure about the details, we can be sure that the author of our salvation has everything under control and that nothing will surprise him. He has already told us that we should expect conflict in the future and that in the end his Will is going to be done. As always, keep looking up for your redemption is drawing nigh.

God bless.
