Doubts arise over dealing with Iran
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
Welcome to this edition of the Rapture Report. We will be looking at developments in the Middle East and in particular with the State of Israel. In the news the last few days, NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer commented that he was not positive that Iran and it's nuclear prgrams could be stop. The Jerusalem Post reports:
In what is seen as a rare statement of support for Israel, NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Monday that there was no reason for Israel to surrender its alleged nuclear capabilities in the face of Iran's continued race towards nuclear power. Speaking at a conference in France, Scheffer said he did not believe the international community would be able to stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb. "I am not positive about the world being able to stop Iran from fulfilling its ambitions," he was quoted as saying.
The NATO Secretary-General went on to further state:
"It is a major challenge to prevent Iran from continuing to strive to get the bomb," Scheffer said, adding that his concern was "that the Security Council, as we speak, is rather incapable of coming to further conclusions on further sanctions."
As we can see from the following comments and recent events, it appears that many in the world are beginning to abandon trying to stop Iran. Many feel we are simply to late in the game to stop them. With Russian and Chinese interference in passing meaningful sanctions, the world community appears to be in a logjam on the issue. Further interference and lack of the West doing anything militarily will just make Iran and Russia more bold in their attempt to disrupt the security balance in the world.
In another blow to solving the Iranian crisis, it was reported that the Iranians issued a letter to EU representative Javier Solana basically saying that further diplomatic pressure on the Iranians would not solve the problem. In a YNetNews article reports:
Iranian media reported that the letter, from Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili to the foreign ministers of the six powers, said pressure would not resolve the nuclear issue.
Iran appears to be playing a tactful game of political chess over the nuclear issues. Iran does not believe that the West will make a military move on their programs, so they are moving ahead unrestricted and unfazed by international sanctions. As we 've mentioned before here in the Rapture Report, I believe that Iran will not respond to the diplomatic pressure and that military strikes are the only things that will sink in with the Iranians. However, the world community does not seem anxious or willing to stop Iran at this point. It appears that only the US/Israel will be left to deal militarily with the Iranian threat if they do.
In fact, a recent news article at Iran Focus shows that the US will not allow Israel to attack Iran. The article goes on to state:
The United States will not permit Israel to attack Iran's nuclear programme as long as American troops are stationed in Iraq, an Israeli television report quoting unnamed diplomatic sources said on Monday. An Israeli official accompanying Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on a visit to Moscow declined to comment on the report. Olmert flew to Moscow to press Russia not to sell advanced missiles and weapons technology to Iran and Syria. The report on Channel 10 said any strike against Iran would leave U.S. forces based in Iraq vulnerable to retaliation. Depending on who becomes the next U.S. president, troops could remain in Iraq from under two years to indefinitely.
As we can see here the US it appears that the US is simply putting it's own safety above Israels. While this can be seen as expected, the fact that the nuclear threat to Israel is not being addresses rasies alarms with me. It is my hope that the Israelis recognize soon that the international community is not going to pass meaningful sanctions on Iran, nor is it liklely to do something militarily either. I believe the day is coming soon when Israel will be forced to act alone on Iran.
The fact that Israel could act alone, could explain why the US and the West may sit on the sidelines when the Russian led coalition from Ezekiel 38-39 heads down to the mountains of Israel. I would not be surprised to see this happen. Slowly but surely America is moving backwards instead of rowards in helping to defend Israel. We need to pray that our country repents of this behavior and moves to once again provide strong support to God's chosen people.
In signs that the next war could move us closer to the prophetic fulfillment of Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39, a Haaretz news articles reports that:
In an interview Friday with the daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Eisenkot presented his "Dahiyah Doctrine," under which the IDF would expand its destructive power beyond what it demonstrated two years ago against the Beirut suburb of Dahiyah, considered a Hezbollah stronghold. "We will wield disproportionate power against every village from which shots are fired on Israel, and cause immense damage and destruction. From our perspective, these are military bases," he said. "This isn't a suggestion. This is a plan that has already been authorized."
Folks, while there are constant ebb and flows in the Middle East, many signs point to more serious escalations in the near future due to the intesifying situation regarding the Iranian nuclear program. We need to remain in constant prayer and seeking guidance from the Lord as we await the future and his soon coming. Keep looking up blessed hope. God bless.
