The Rapture Report - PA: Give us a State or It's War

PA: Give us a State or It's War
Written: 09-20-2010
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris

While the Israelis and Palestinians are carrying out direct talks at this time, the PA has made it clear that there will be one of two results when it comes to peace talks. The PA declared that Israel can give them a state according to their demands or that there will be war. This rhetoric is hardly surprising as it fits exactly the mold in which we have been discussing for some time here in the Rapture Report. As I have stated many times before, the current direct peace talks are nothing more than a sham that allows the Palestinians to gain as much as they can during negotiations and then they will simply go to war for the rest. The Palestinians over the years have rejected one peace deal after another which shows that they have no desire to make a genuine peace with Israel. To illustrate, the Israel National News website is reports:

Senior Palestinian Authority negotiator Nabil Shaath has announced that the PA will never accept Israel as a Jewish state. In addition, he threatened war if the PA fails to obtain its demands through negotiations, saying, “A Palestinian state will arise, either through negotiations or through armed resistance.”The Arab League voted last week to support PA Chairman Abbas' refusal to recognize Israel as Jewish. Shaath said that recognizing Israel as Jewish state would undermine the PA's demand for the “right of return,” which would grant Israeli citizenship to the millions of descendants of Arab who fled Israel during its War of Independence.

The PA has demanded that no Jewish residents remain in the territory it claims as the location of a future Arab state, including any Israelis in Judea and Samaria who would be willing to become PA citizens. Arab leaders in the PA and elsewhere have insisted that Israel cease all construction for Judea and Samaria Jews in order for negotiations to proceed.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak backed the PA view in an interview with Channel 1 broadcast Saturday night. “I say to Israeli citizens, including Jews, Muslims and others, that there is no such thing as a state in which all the citizens are Jews,” he said.

While the Arab League and Mubarak argued against labeling a state “Jewish,” many Arab League nations – among them Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Libya – are officially Muslim countries. In Syria the president is required by law to be a Muslim, and the same is true for the Prime Minister of Lebanon.

We can see from the above remarks that unless Israel gives in completely to the Palestinians and give them a state according to their liking, even if it means destroying Israel, then there will be no peace. The Palestinians and the rest of the Islamic world are hypocritical in their refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. As the article noted, there are many states in the Middle East that are Islamic and require by law that their leaders be Islamic. The truth of the matter is that the Islamic leaders and people in the world have only one goal when it comes to Israel and that is the total destruction of Israel. They will simply not give up this desire and any attempts to appease the Islamics will only make things worse as they see giving in to their demands as being a sign of weakness. The Israelis know this, yet it is mind-boggling that they continue to try to give away land for peace. Perhaps they do it because they know the Islamics won't accept it and to show the world community that they have tried to make peace. I don't know, but it is clear that both sides have red lines in the sand which they are not willing to cross.

An interesting news brief came out today where former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert acknowledged that he offered to go back to 1967 armistice lines and give up the sacred Temple Mount, but the Palestinians said no. Which is no surprise, as the Islamics won't agree to anything unless it involves the total destruction of Israel. The Israel National News website reports:

Ehud Olmert relays in his new autobiography that in negotiations with the PA he agreed to divide Jerusalem and give Arabs control over Judaism’s holiest site - the Temple Mount. According to Olmert he agreed to retreat to the 1967 armistice lines with slight changes – divide Jerusalem and give the Arabs control over the mount. The PA rejected the offer.

This news brief shocked me as well as showed the level of depth the Israelis were willing to go to in order to bring peace to the region. And once again the Palestinians turned down the deal. Today, Palestinian PM Abbas says that he will not carry out any more peace talks even for one day if the current settlement freeze is not continued. The Haaretz news website reports:

Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas said Monday that he would not continue "a single day" of direct peace negotiations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if Israel refused to extend its construction freeze in West Bank settlements after it expires next week, AFP reported. Abbas told AFP that "the negotiations will continue as long as the settlement remains frozen," but stipulated "I am not prepared to negotiate an agreement for a single day more."

The Palestinian leader's remarks came a day after Netanyahu reiterated that he would not yield to growing international calls on Israel to extend a freeze on settlement building in the West Bank – and prevent peace talks from collapsing. Israel would not risk exposing its citizens to the type of attacks launched from the Gaza Strip since Israel's withdrawal in 2005, Netanyahu told cabinet colleagues at their weekly meeting in Jerusalem. "I stand firmly behind Israel's security needs, to prevent a repetition of the rocket fire on Israel's citizens from Gaza," he said.

In other news, there are troubling reports that the Russians will go ahead with a deal to provide Syria will advanced cruise missiles that will potentially put the Israeli Navy in serious danger. The Israelis as well as the U.S. have launched strong opposition to the arms deal between Russia and Syria, yet despite this the Russians are refusing to cancel the deal. To me, this shows the true color of the Russian regime and it appears that the arming of Israel's enemies will continue leading to prophecies being fulfilled in Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and eventually Ezekiel 38-39. The planned sale of these cruise missiles to Syria apparently angered the Israelis so much that they issued threats to sell advanced weapons to Russia's enemies as a countermeasure to the planned Russia/Syria deal. No response seems to have come from Moscow about the Israeli threats. The YNetNews news website reports:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said the sale of Russian cruise missiles to Damascus was "a problematic and troubling matter" and that Israel "must prepare for a new rocket and missile threat." Speaking at a Likud ministers meeting, Netanyahu said, "The matter is being discussed by us. Unfortunately, the deal is progressing in stages. It's a problematic and troubling matter. "We must prepare for a new threat of rockets and missiles and we are working to provide a technological response to this issue through new military supplies," the prime minister told his party members.

Earlier Sunday, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported that Israeli officials were threatening to sell weapons to "areas of strategic importance" to Russia after Moscow announced over the weekend that it would go through with the sale of P-800 missiles to Damascus. Russia's announcement came after both Israel and the US implored that it abandon the sale. The cruise missiles discussed, dubbed Yakhont, have a range of 300 km, which puts Israeli ships off of Lebanon's coast at risk of being hit by missiles fired from Syria's southern port. The original deal was signed between Russia and Syria in 2007, but last month Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Russian President Vladimir Putin and requested that he call it off, for fear the missiles will be handed to Hezbollah.

So, while the Israelis and Palestinians continue the direct peace talks for the moment being, it is apparent the region is setting the stage for the failure of the direct peace talks and the result of that failure will unfortunately be war. The Bible tells us that in the end times the Israelis will have a couple of conflicts in the region. One of them is detailed in Psalm 83 and includes Israel's "immediate" neighbors. These nations would be the Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza, and Egypt group. This conflict may also expand out to to other Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq as well. The prophecy concerning the total destruction of Damascus is also waiting to be fulfilled. The potential for Syria to get carried away and fire off biological and chemical weapons is a very serious threat. The new cruise missiles obtained from the Russians will also make things more difficult for Israel. And of course there is the Ezekiel 38-39 conflict that will involve the "outside" ring of enemies of Israel that include Iran, Russia, Turkey, and the remaining Islamic countries in the region. This war will provide the opening for God to once again intervene to protect his chosen people. He will not do this because they deserve it, but he will do so to magnify and glorify his Holy name.

Despite the rumblings in the Middle East and the many reports that state that this might be the last opportunity for peace, the stage is clearly being set for war. Which is why Bible prophecy watchers will need to keep a very close eye on the Middle East over the next week as the construction freeze in Israel is set to be lifted. Barring a last minute change of heart by Israeli PM Netnayahu to extend the freeze, the stage is being set for more trouble in the Middle East. This is being prompted by the ridiculous and outrageous demands the Palestinians are placing on Israel, in order to either get the Israelis to cave in or provide the justification for another round of war. And this time around, the Islamics will lose terribly. The Bible tells us this.

With all that is going on in the Middle East, we need to pray that the Holy Spirit convicts those living in the epicenter of the Middle East to come to the loving and saving faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only chance for mankind in this world. Let us continue to pray for Israel and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. And remember, when we see these things taking place, the Bible reminds us to lift up our heads, for our redemption is drawing nigh!

God bless.
