IAEA elects new director; Israel sends submarines through the Suez Canal
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
As many of you know, the IAEA elected and announced a new director of the international organization the other day. The man selected to direct the IAEA is Japan's Yukiya Amano. For his part, Amano is seen as being more "neutral" in the IAEA's work in regards to Israel's interests as opposed to out-going IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei. In the last edition of the Rapture Report I talked about Mohamed ElBaradei and how he was not a good choice to lead the organization due to his conflicts of interest and in fact should have been ousted years ago. Several countries have become nuclear powers on his watch and overall I believe the security of the world as a whole was decreased as the result of this fact.
One of the major reasons I believe this is that ElBaradei is an Islam follower and his job duties conflicted with one of the top jobs he was suppose to do which was to stop nuclear proliferation activites. But ElBaradei failed to do his job as we saw a cuple of Isalmic nations become or about to become nuclear powers. As many of you know, Islam teaches that it is "ok" to lie to the "infidels" to get what they want. As an Islam follower ElBaradei probably felt compassion and pressure not to upset his fellows Islamists who are desperately trying to destroy the "Great Satan" (the U.S.) and the "Little Satan" (Israel). I do not believe that it was a coincidence that a good percentage of the nations that made significant progress on illegal developments of nuclear weapons programs were also Islamic countries such as Pakistan, Iran, and Syria (made progress before Israeli airstrike).
In today's news we see that the incoming IAEA chief made comments where he stated that he did not see any evidence that Iran was trying to develop a nuclear weapon. A Jerusalem Post article reports that:
There is no concrete evidence that Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons, incoming International Atomic Energy Agency chief Yukiya Amano said Friday, in his first public comments on Iran's nuclear program. "I don't see any evidence in IAEA official documents about this," Yukiya Amano told Reuters. Asked on his approach to dealing with countries such as Iran and Syria, Amano said: "I'm not going to be a 'soft' director general or a 'tough' director general."
Here we see that Japan's Amano has already made a very concerning statement regarding the Iranian nuclear program. Iran has for years stone-walled the IAEA, they have not provided the nuclear information that the IAEA asked of them, they have not reported the illegal nuclear plants and reactors but yet the new IAEA director general can't see any "concrete" proof of an Iranian nuclear weapons programs? This is simply unbelievable and probably another instance of appeasement to the Islamic world. Iran has made repeated calls for "Israel to be wiped off the map" and even Mohamed ElBaradei himself has said that he believes that Iran is seeking a nuclear weapons program. To me, this just points to the continuance of the IAEA being nothing more than irrelevant organization in the current world situation as it relates to nuclear proliferation, which is exactly what it was when ElBaradei was running it. Hopefully Amano and the IAEA will prove me wrong, but for a man that has just taken reins of the IAEA his recent comments are just a cause for concern.
In other news, there was a really interesting article that raised my eyebrows. The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Israel has sent one of it's advanced "Dolphin" class submarines through the Suez Canal in order to particpate in naval maneuvers in the Red Sea. The article reports:
After a long hiatus, the Israeli Navy has returned to sailing through the Suez Canal, recently sending one of its advanced Dolphin-class submarines through the waterway to participate in naval maneuvers off the Eilat coast in the Red Sea. IDF sources said the decision to allow navy vessels to sail through the canal was made recently and was a definite "change of policy" within the service. In 2005, then OC Navy Adm. David Ben-Bashat decided to stop sending Israeli ships through the canal due to growing threats in the area.
The article also went on to provide a very interesting perspective of why the Israelis might have resumed sending naval vessels back through the Suez Canal:
The significance of the move was debatable, but it could be interpreted as a message to Iran and a demonstration of strengthening ties between Egypt and Israel. In the event of a conflict with Iran, and if Israel decided to involve its three Dolphin-class submarines - which according to foreign reports can fire nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and serve as a second-strike platform - the quickest route would be to send them through the Suez Canal. The only way to get to the Gulf of Oman without refueling would be to go through the canal. With their reported 4,500 nautical mile range, taking the long way, around Africa, would require the Dolphins to make at least two stops for refueling at a friendly port, or for fuel to be replenished at sea.
In terms of Bible prophecy, this article highlights some interesting developments in the Middle East. As many of you know from reading the news headlines and the Rapture Report, Israel appears to be increasing their long-range military activites and movements that could suggest a possible near-term strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has recently conducted several long-range missions involving almost a hundred planes going as far as the tip of Gilbraltar in the Western Mediterrean Sea. And now we are seeing the resumption of naval vessels, including submarines capable of firing nuclear-tipped missles, passing through the Seuz Canal. I would imagine that Israel could be testing and making "practice runs" for the when the time comes to take out the Iranian nuclear program due to the diplomatic stalemate between the international community and Iran over the nuclear issue. This developing situation could very well lead us to the prophetic scenario of Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and eventually Ezekiel 38-39 as I would imagine that the ruling regime in Iran would be outraged and probably resort to trying to immediately trying to destroy Israel should they attack their nuclear program.
For it's part Israel has been very adamant that they will not allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons in order to try to carryout a second Holocaust. I can't stress this enough, but students of Bible prophecy need to keep watching the news reports and keep an eye on the Middle East as the potential for conflict continues to increase daily as Iran continues to make progress on their nuclear program.
