Turning Up the Heat
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
In today's news there were a couple items that seemed to stand out that indicated that the heat was being turned up in the Middle East. First, there was a report from the New York Times that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had recently completed an important and complex military exercise that is being seen by many as a "practice run" for a possible strike on the Iranian nuclear program.
The report indicated that the military exercise was carried out over 900 miles, which is about the same distance from Israel to the Iranian Natanz enrichment facilty. It is also being reported that various "rescue" missions were conducted by helicopters in an effort to similuate real case military scenarios. These rescue and search type missions will be valuable should Israel decide to attack the Iranian nuclear program and in the process sustain downed planes and pilots. Another interesting aspect of the report was that over 100 F-15 and F-16 planes took part of the exercise. This is a very large number of planes, and it is being suggested that the number was large so as to attract attention in the region.
The recent IAF exercise was witnessed by all who monitor global military exercises and was seen as a warning sign to both allies and enemies alike. Israeli allies like the United States should take note that Israel is indeed very serious about not allowing the Iranians to develop a nuclear weapons capability despite the ongoing peace process that is taking place in the region. Foes of Israel, especially the Iranians and Syrians, should be nervous that time could indeed be short for a military strike should they continue down the nuclear path against the wishes of the international community.
After spending many years engaged in diplomatic efforts, time is slowly but surely running out as the Iranians are expected to start up their nuclear reactors in the Fall of 2008. Septemeber is commonly mentioned as the month for going "online" with the nuclear fuel provided by the Russians.
In other news, IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei is reported to be threatening to quit should the Iranian nuclear facilities be attacked. The Jerusalem Post is reporting that ElBaradei made the following remarks:
"I don't believe that what I see in Iran today is a current, grave and urgent danger. If a military strike is carried out against Iran at this time ... it would make me unable to continue my work," said the IAEA chief.
These comments by ElBaradei, who is married to an Iranian woman, are quite interesting. ElBaradei is claiming that he does not see any danger in a fantical regime that is currently suspected of seeking nuclear weapons. A regime that is hostile to not only Israel but also the West, and who has threatened in the past to "wipe Israel off the map". Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with nukes would be the equivalent of a nuclear Hitler. The world simply can't afford to take a chance with a nuclear Iran. And even with all of this, ElBaradei says he sees no danger. I'd have to wonder if he didn't "want" to see the danger being that he is moslem and linked to Iran through his marriage. It certainly does raise valid concerns about ElBaradei and a conflict of interest.
ElBaradei claims that he would be unable to complete his "work" should a military strike be carried out on Iran. This remark also raises further concerns as to what exactly is the "work" that ElBaradei has been doing? It is noteworthy that under ElBaradei's watch, several nations have become nuclear powers as a result of his watch on the international nuclear scene. What remains to be seen is if Iran will follows in the footsteps of these nations and realize their nuclear ambitions. I would suspect if ElBaradei had his way, Iran will indeed achieve their nuclear ambitions. One can only pray that the West and Israel will make a move and keep the Iranians from realizing their evil plans.
As students of Bible prophecy, we should be watching the Iranian nuclear situation with keen interest as it could set the stage for the possible fulfillments of Isiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39. As the prophet Ezekiel wrote 2,000-3,000 years ago that in the last days a coalition would arise led by Russia (Magog) and Iran (Persia) that would attempt to invade the Holy Land. This coalition is essentially a moslem led coalition that will attempt to invade Israel in order to "take a spoil". The invasion will result in the supernatural intervention of God in order to save Israel from certain defeat. In turn this will likely result in the spiritual awakening of the Jewish people and probably lead to the building of the Third Jewish Temple as spoken of in the scriptures.
As a result, we need to keep watching and remain sober, signs are pointing that the prophecy puzzle pieces could be moving around the board. Things tend to go down fast in the Middle East and without warning. God bless.
