Turkey Considered Naval Invasion of Israeli Waters

In a sign of how serious things got back in 2010 when Israel stormed the terrorists aboard the "Mavi Marmara" flotilla vessel, it is being reported today in a Turkish newspaper that Turkey came dangerously close to war with Israel over the incident. While we all know that Turkey was furious about the Gaza flortilla incident, this report tends to shed more light on just how tense and unpredictable the Middle East can be at times. The Israel National News outlet is reporting that:
A Turkish newspaper has released details of a high-level meeting of the country's military leaders, in which the Turkish government had considered sending warships into Israel as a military escort for the Mavi Marmara flotilla - and the possibility of triggering a war with the Jewish state as a result.
This recent acknowledgement came from a retired naval admiral within the Turkish Navy. The Israel National News article went on to say:
Statements to the Turkish press made by Retired Admiral of the Turkish Fleet, Nusret Guner, show how far the Erdogan government was prepared to go in supporting anti-Israel groups. The Islamist organization behind the flotilla - the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has since been raided over ties to Al Qaeda, and is suspected of sending weapons to Al Qaeda-linked groups in Syria.
I believe that many of us remember when the "Mavi Marmara" event unfolded and the ensuing political trouble that Israel found itself in as a result of the raid. Never mind that Israel was justified under international law for responding to the Gaza flotilla, the Islamic world turned onto it's head as a result of the situation. Turkey and it's leader anti-semitic leader Erdogan showed their true feelings and hostility towards the Jewish state for all the world to see.
When learning about articles like this, I am constantly amazed at how fast things can go downhill in the Middle East. We know that from the prophet Ezekiel that one day Turkey will be among a confederation of enemies that descends upon Israel for the purpose of destroying her. This is detailed in the famous "Gog/Magog" conflict of Ezekiel 38-39. From the Bible we read:
Eze 38:1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Eze 38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
Eze 38:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
Eze 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
Eze 38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
Eze 38:6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.
Turkey can be seen in the above passages by looking at the name of "Togarmah". Togarmah is an area that includes southeast Europe and Turkey. When we see the hostility exhibited by ERdogan and the Turks, it should be an example of how close we are to the fulfillment of prophecy. It is my opinion that things will only get worse as it relates to Turkey and Israel. To me, the thawing of relations right now between Israel and Turkey can be put back in the deep freeze with the next outbreak of hostilities or unfavorable international incident. One thing for sure is that Turkey is no "true" friend of Israel.
The Israel National News article went on to fruther report how this incident with Turkey and Israel almost came to a frightening head:
Hours before the Mavi Marmara flotilla raid, on May 30 2010, the Turkish Navy Base in Iskenderun was attacked by Kurdish militants using rocket launchers. Six Turkish soldiers were killed and seven were wounded. Prime Minister Erdogan, Chief of Staff Ilker Basbug and Turkish Navy’s Commander Ugur Yigit were all abroad for official visits.
According to Turkish paper Haberturk, at 7.30 a.m. an emergency meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc, Interior Minister Besir Atalay, several army generals and navy chief Admiral Nusret Guner.
At the meeting, the idea of sending warships to escort the Mavi Marmara had come into question. The government asked the Navy if they were ready to do this. Admiral Guner confirmed that it was ready to send warships to escort the anti-Israel flotilla, but stated that this would likely trigger a hot war with Israel and added that "In that case, (since a) state of conflict with Israel is imminent, the Navy should have the authorization to enforce rules of engagement."
With Israel and Turkey now supposedly warming up over Israel's agreement to "pay off" the families of the terrorists that were killed on the Mavi Marmara, it remains to be seen if the relationship between the two countries will continue to warm up or if it will collapse into a cold spell.
My thinking is that it is hard to tell, but I do know from Bible prophecy that eventually something will happen that will cause Turkey to join an alliance of nations coming from Israel's nNorth with the evil motive of destroying the Jewish state. Whether the event that triggers this is another flotilla incident or perhaps even something like Israel's bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, only time will tell or sure. But as we watch these things take place in the Middle East we can have fiath in God's Word that is coming true just as it was foretold.
And with this, it is all the more reason to keep looking up!
