The Rapture Report - 'Iran got nuke gear from Chinese firm'

'Iran got nuke gear from Chinese firm'
Written: 04-03-2010
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris

An article in the Jerusalem Post is reporting that Iran recently obtained nuclear programs parts and gear from a Chinese company. This is coming on the heals of reports that this is not the first time but one of many. The Jerusalem Post article reports:

Iran recently managed to obtain equipment critical to its uranium enrichment efforts, and which is banned by UN sanctions against the country, through a Chinese company, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday. According to the report, the hardware – which included valves and vacuum gauges for enrichment centrifuges – was bought by an Iranian research firm which is linked to the country’s atomic energy organization. It was purchased from an intermediary representing a Chinese company - Zheijiang Ouhai Trade Corp.

The article goes on to state that the West only learned of the recent purchase through an email sent to IAEA officials making them aware of the situation. An investigation is currently ongoing to try to find out how Iran was able to acquire the banned nuclear parts and gear. The Jerusalem Post article noted that the parts themselves were not made in China but instead made in France. The French company who made the parts denies any wrongdoings. The Jerusalem Post article went on to further report:

The valves and gauges were actually produced by a French company, KD Valves-Descote, which has denied involvement in the sale and says it does not even know how the equipment reached the Chinese firm. “We have never sold to China. Believe me, I wish we could," Jean-Pierre Richer, president of KD Valves, told the paper, explaining that his company did not have the necessary licenses. Zheijiang itself would not respond to the paper’s requests for comment. The intermediary, a person named Vikas Kumar Talwar, could not be located. But US officials told the paper that his name had come up in the past in connection with Iranian efforts to buy nuclear equipment.

Upon hearing of this report concerning Chinese involvement in selling Iran nuclear parts that are needed for their banned nuclear program, it is not very surprising to hear that China is involved in doing this. When one looks back at the international community's efforts to halt the Iranian nuclear program, one country has remained steadfast in frowning on sanctions and that is of course China. While Russia had reluctance in the beginning stages of the sanctions process, they have recently come on aboard the sanctions push but China for the most part has continued to state that "talks" where the best way to make progress on the nuclear issue. This is on top of the fact that the international community has spent 5-6 years "talking" with the Iranians and gotten absolutely no where with them. The truth of the matter is that "talks" are simply a way to appease the Islamists while continuing to trade with them which bypasses the current sanctions that are in place. This is why Iranian President Ahmadinejad continues to be defiant when it comes to the world's efforts to place sanctions on his regime. He knows that he will be able to work around the sanctions and has plenty of partners will to look the other way when it concerns the sanctions. China is in fact heavily reliant on oil and gas trade between the two countries. So, in my opinion sanctions are really the cowards way out of dealing with Iran. If the world is truly serious about stopping the Iranian nuclear program they would do what is needed, which is to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities even if it only sets the program back for years. There is always a chance that a more moderate and non-nuclear seeking regime could replace the current one if things get worse in Iran. At the very least it buys more time to deal with Iran as the window of opportunity to stop them is rapidly closing.

The Jerusalem Post article also detailed the tactics the Iranians have taken to try to work around the sanctions and obtain equipment for the banned nuclear program, which further highlights the fact that sanctions will be worthless in stopping Iran:

The sale, the paper stated, represented an ongoing effort by Teheran to obtain equipment through various Iranian companies connected to its nuclear efforts. US investigators say banned equipment has reached the Iranians in the past through countries such as China, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. "What we see over and over is you have a core smuggling ring in Iran where some procurement entity within the conventional military establishment needs things, and they find companies or individuals in Iran to buy these things," former UN weapons inspector David Albright said.

Iran was also in the news again today as they were "saber-rattling" against Israel for the recent announcement by an Israeli government official that the Israelis may have to retake Gaza as the situation has gotten worse there in recent weeks. An Israel National News website article reported:

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded Saturday with typical bluster to an Israeli statement regarding a possible military operation against Gaza. "They are looking for an excuse to attack Gaza,” he said. “I want to tell the Zionists and their supporters that they have committed enough crimes already. The new adventure will not save you, but will bring you closer to certain death.” Gaza is ruled by the radical Islamist movement Hamas, and is effectively a proxy of Teheran, which arms, trains and directs Hamas.

Ahamdinejad was responding to Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom who had warned that the continued rocket attacks against Israeli cities would necessitate a strong reaction from the IDF including the possibility of retaking the Gaza strip. The INN article quoted Shalom as saying:

Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom had warned Friday of a new offensive by the IDF if rocket fire from Gaza against Israeli civilians continues. “If this rocket fire against Israel does not stop, it seems we will have to raise the level of our activity and step up our actions against Hamas,” Shalom told government-run Voice of Israel radio.

“We won’t allow frightened children to again be raised in bomb shelters and so, in the end, it will force us to launch another military operation,” he said. “I hope we can avoid it, but it is one of the options we have, and if we don’t have a choice, we will use it in the near future.”

With rockets being fired nearly everyday at Israel from Gaza, it appears that the Palestinians are looking for a fight and they may well get more than what they bargain for should Israel take off the "kid gloves" once and for all. The Israeli find themselves in a difficult situation giving that arms smuggling has enabled the terrorist on all three sides to stock up weapons to levels that are much higher than before the Operation Cast Lead back in 2009. With the Middle East peace process still pretty much stalled it could be that the Palestinians are trying to up the ante on the ground in order to further pressure Israel. In recent days we have seen members of the world community make statements that while Israel had the right to defend themselves, that military action was not the answer to the problem. To me, this is more appeasement to the Palestinians and Islamists that will be viewed as a sign of weakness further encouraging acts of violence and terrorism against Israel. It is quite possible that if the Palestinians aren't careful they could trigger a response from the IDF that will perhaps result in a Psalm 83 type of situation. In my opinion, this situation of daily rocket attacks on Israel is an issue that needs to be watched closely.

In another article that highlights this points, the Haaretz news is reporting that Hamas leader Meshal is declaring that all options are open in dealing with Israel, including the option of war. Meshel was quoted as saying:

Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal said on Saturday that all options against Israel remain open, including war, Channel 10 news reported. "We will do everything to obtain the rights stolen from us, including confrontation with the enemy," he told journalists. Meshal was meeting with senior members of Palestinian terrorist organizations, including Ahmed Jibril, the head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Jibril said that he supports efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation. Regarding Israel, he added that Palestinians are being asked to relinquish their rights "first and foremost, armed resistance." Jibril also said that Palestinians are being asked to "recognize the Zionist entity and accept the conditions put forth by the Quartet.

I believe that one of the reasons that the Palestinians are continuing to fire rockets into Israel is that they have been pressured recently by the Russians to quit firing rockets at Israel. As the quote above indicates they are also being pressure to drop their armed resistance, recognize Israel, and many other things that they are simply not willing to do. The reason for this is that the Palestinians and the rest of the Islamic world are not interested in true peace with Israel. They are simply bargaining to obtain as much as they can through negotiations before launching more wars against the Israelis. After being soundly defeated by the Israelis in 1948, 1967, and 1973 the Islamists have resorted to armed resistance that is basically terrorist attacks here and there to try to over the long term wear down and break the will of the Israeli people. However, this is not working out as the Islamists have hoped and Israel refuses to budge on their red line issues. As both sides refuse to budge, it makes conflict inevitable as both sides have declared that they will not give up their "rights". As pressure increases on the Palestinians and Iranians, we should look for an increase in disturbances on the border with Israel as a way to deflect pressure off of the PA and Iran. Eventually the peace process will derail and conflict will result. The end result could very well lead to the sequence of fulfillments involving Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 (should Syria get involved militarily), and finally lead to Ezekiel 38-39.

It is interesting to note that the nations involved most closely in the Middle East peace process are also the ones mentioned in these prophecies. The terrorists that are currently on the border with Israel and firing rockets are the same folks mentioned in the Psalm 83 scenario. Russia and Iran are of course the leaders of the Ezekiel 38-39 conflict. We are literally seeing the prophetic puzzle pieces moving around the end times chess board. I would like to suggest that we continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem as well as for Israel. The Israelis have many dark days ahead of them and they could certainly use our prayers. May they also come to faith in the loving and saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

God bless.
