Gaza ceasefire crumbles as rockets hit southern Israel
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
On Thursday night the fragile "ceasefire" between the Palestinians in Gaza and the Israelis was broken when terrorists fired four rockets into southern Israel. The IDF retaliated by striking along the coast of Gaza. In fact, there really hasn't been a true ceasefire in the sense that the attacks stopped altogether on both sides. I believe there have been rockets fired from Gaza just about everyday during the "ceasefire" although they were usually only one or two. Israel showed great restraint in holding off on retaliating, but there's a limit to Israeli patience. The Jerusalem Post reports:
Palestinians fired four rockets from Gaza into the South on Thursday night, interrupting hours of relative calm. One rocket was fired into the Ashkelon Coast Council area, and one into the Eshkol Regional Council area. Both projectiles fell in open areas. The Iron Dome rocket defense system intercepted one Grad rocket that was fired from Gaza toward the Ashdod area, and another fell in an open area. No injuries or damages were reported.
The IDF reponse to the rocket attacks was to fire missiles and other artillery at Gaza and the Israeli Navy took shots at bombarding the Gaza coast. It may be that the rockets fired into southern Israel were fired from the coast, but that remains unknown to me at this time. The Jerusalem Post reports:
Palestinian sources reported shortly after, that IAF helicopters fired at an area in the northwestern Gaza Strip, and that Navy warships fired missiles at the coast of Gaza. No casualties were reported and there was no confirmation of an attack by the IDF.
It appears to me that there may not ever be a ceasefire until the IDF takes some "painful" measures against the terrorists up to and including a ground assault on Gaza. It appears to me that one of the tactics of the terrorists is to shoot enough rockets into Gaza to keep the Israelis attention focused on the area as well as disrupt everyday life for the residents of the southern country. However, while this might sound like a doable strategy for the terrorist, I have a feeling that Israel will eventually "tire" of the same game and decide to eliminate the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza once and for all. That of course would mean eliminating Hamas and all the other terrorist organizations that are currently engaged in this situation. There are some calls on the Internet for Israel to take back the Gaza strip but there has been no word from the Israeli leadership about such an action. So, for the time being it looks like the ceasefire on the southern border with Gaza is crumbling.
While the southern border region is the main focus right now, there was a familar voice coming from the north praising the rockets being fired into Gaza. Hezbollah leader Nasrallah was heard praising the attacks on Israel. The Jerusalem Post reports:
Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday praised the recent barrage of rockets fired from Gaza over southern Israel. “The resistance was able to force a million and half a million of Israelis to stay in shelters,” Nasrallah said, lauding it as an achievement. Nasrallah was addressing newly graduated students from Hezbollah educational institutions via a screen during a graduation ceremony in Beirut. He also accused the West of "double standard policy and hypocrisy" and said Israel was responsible for the escalations. "“Israel was who started the war when its occupation forces killed the leader of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), Shiekh Zohair al-Qaisi in an airstrike,” he said.
While Nasrallah might have a point that it was in fact Israel that took a "pre-emptive" measure in assassinating the PRC terrorist mastermind, the fact remains that he was in the middle of planning and carrying out a major attack on the Israel via the Egyptian border. This "pre-emptive" strike by Israel has likely saved many lives on the Israeli side. As we mentioned in the previous editions of the Rapture Report, it was just a matter of time to see if this "ceasefire" would hold and like so many others it did not. What will happen from here on out remains to be seen. Which is why followers of Bible prophecy need to continue to watch the situation in the region with great interest. Many Bible prophecy scholars and watchers are eagerly anticipating the fulfillment of the prophecies from Psalm 83 where Israel destroys their immediate surrounding enemies and perhaps even gains land as a result.
Whatever the situation may be, it is of no surprise to our Father in Heaven, as he is watching closely with keen interest as his Word will be fulfilled just as he has said it will. Let us continue to pray for the Israelis as they face the evil rocket onslaught from the terrorists and may we also pray that the Islamic hordes see the errors of their way and repent of their evil deeds towards the Israelis. Stay tuned!
