The Rapture Report - Netanyahu: Israel will keep building in Jerusalem

Netanyahu: Israel will keep building in Jerusalem
Written: 03-15-2010
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris

After last weeks diplomatic crisis with the U.S. administration that went on through the weekend, Israeli PM Benajmin Netanyahu remarked on Monday that Jewish building in east Jerusalem would continue just as it has since 1967 when the Israelis recaptured the capital during the Six Day War. Netanyahu made his remarks after spending Sunday in consultation with his seven cabinet members, all who supported the continued housing development in east Jerusalem. The Haaretz news agency reports:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said that Israel would continue to build in Jerusalem in the same way that it has over the last 42 years. "The building in Jerusalem - and in all other places - will continue in the same way as has been customary over the last 42 years," said Netanyahu at a Likud party meeting. Israel drew angry reactions from the U.S. and the Palestinians by announcing last week the construction of 1,600 new housing units in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo during a visit by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden last week.

Further, when asked about the current 10 month building freeze, Netanyahu commented that building in east Jerusalem would resume after the 10 month freeze:

However, when asked by MK Tzipi Hotovely what would happen in September, when the 10-month settlement freeze ends, Netanyahu responded that construction would continue unabated. Under U.S. pressure, Netanyahu imposed a limited moratorium on new housing starts in West Bank settlements in November but excluded Jerusalem from the 10-month partial freeze.

I find it particularly interesting that Netanyahu has basically snubbed his nose at the Obama administration and basically said that the Israelis will continue to build regardless of what the U.S. administration wants. To me, this is the correct thing to do as Israel should be the only ones to decide whether they can build in their own country. The U.S. has absolutely no right dictating such demands on another country. However, despite making today's comments that Israel will continue to build in east Jerusalem, the U.S. government says it is still waiting for a "formal" response from Israel over the "demands" and "expectations" placed on them by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her forty off minute tongue lashing of Netanyahu. It would appear to me that Netanyahu gave the U.S. their decision today, but apparently they didn't want to hear what was said because they didn't like it. The YNetNews agency reports:

The US State Department said Monday it was waiting for a "formal" Israeli response to its concerns, declining comment on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks in support of settlements. Netanyahu earlier Monday indicated that construction of Israeli settlements would continue in east Jerusalem, despite a tense phone call last week from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging him to stop.

"When she outlined what she thought appropriate actions would be to the prime minister, she asked for a response by the Israeli government. We wait for the response," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters. Pressed for a reaction to Netanyahu's remarks, Crowley said: "We asked for a formal response from the Israeli government and when we get that response we'll react to it." Crowley also hinted that former senator George Mitchell may reconsider a trip planned to the region this week depending on developments. "This is a fluid situation. As of this moment he's still in the United States," Crowley said.

In other news, a senior PLO member says that if Israel continues on with building in the east Jerusalem area that it would lead to a Third Intifada. The YNetNews reports:

PLO executive committee member Ahmed Qureia warned Monday that if Israel continues to build Jewish neighborhood in east Jerusalem and raze Arab homes "another intifada will break out." Speaking to reporters in Abu Dis, Qureia, a former prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, said, "If matters remain at this level, regardless of whether we take the decision or not, it is coming. If Israel continues these practices, it is coming," he said.

It is comments like this about a Third Intifada that seems to add to the evidence that we are leading to the fulfillment of the Psalm 83 prophecies as the borders of Israel are armed to the maximum by the terrorists and that if a Third Intifada were to occur, it could provide the proper cover for the fulfillment of these prophecies concerning the enemies of Israel that are calling for the destruction of Israel and that her name be remembered no more. Israel would have the perfect opportunity to take off the "kid gloves" and take care of the "Palestinian" problem once and for all.

The tiny land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem are becoming the focal points of the world's attention which is exactly what the Bible tells us will happen here in these last days. Jerusalem will become the "burdensome stone" and all the nations will concern themselves with it. But the Lord tells us that all those who concern themselves with Jerusalem will be cut to pieces. The battle for Jerusalem is not just a physical battle, but is a spiritual battle as well. Satan is lining up his forces in a strong bid to wrestle Jerusalem and eventually Israel away from the Jews. But we know that God will not allow this to occur.

Let us continue to watch the situation in the Middle East as things continue to head towards a downward spiral that may eventually lead to some fulfillments of prophecy. Only time will tell if they will, but one thing is for sure and that is something is bound to happen soon. Things are getting very interesting in the Middle East to say the least. The prophetic puzzle pieces could be moving into place for things that we couldn't even imagine taking place. Let's continue to be watchmen on the wall and warn the world of the coming turmoil over Jerusalem, while at the same time telling people about the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.

God bless.
