Arab Report: Syria Calling Up Reserves
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris
In today's news we find an interesting report coming out of the pan-Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat. The report claims that Syrian troops from the Fourth Reserve are being called up due to increased tension in the region. The report also cited Israel military exercises in the northern part of the country as another possible cause that could have resulted in the call up of reserves. The Israel National News reports:
Tensions have escalated along the Israeli-Lebanese border and Syria has begun calling up troops from its Fourth Reserve, sources told the pan-Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat. The newspaper, printed on four continents, reports that the Israeli military has been carrying out drills on Israel's northern frontier, as the second anniversary of the death of senior Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyeh approaches. Mughniyeh was killed when a car bomb exploded in Damascus on February 13, 2008.
“Well-informed Lebanese sources” told the newspaper that Hizbullah is on a state of alert in the face of IDF “military maneuvers.” The sources added that Hizbullah is concerned Israel may launch a surprise attack on its bases and posts. "Israel has accustomed us to aggression and we are used to being vigilant and on the lookout all the time. That is what we are doing,” a source said.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, in Paris, said that “France does not expect that there will be an Israeli military offensive” at present. However, he expressed concern that “some Iranian leaders” might try to cause escalation in southern Lebanon.
As we can see from the article the tension in the region is beginning to reach a boiling point, especially for Israel and it's proxy terrorist enemies on the border. The Israelis have tried time and time again to reach a peace with their Islamic neighbors but no genuine peace can be found as the goals of the Islamic enemies is not to make peace, but to wage war and try to destroy Israel. Many of the diplomatic and military leaders have come out and warned about impending conflict between Israel and it's terrorist enemies. In fact, at the end of the Israel National News article, Israel Cabinet Minister Yossi Peled said that:
"Without a doubt, we are heading for another round [of battle with Hizbullah] in the north," Cabinet Minister Yossi Peled said Saturday. Peled, who was the head of Israel's Northern Command, said at an event in Be'er Sheva that "no one knows" when a conflict will occur, “but it's clear that it will happen." The Prime Minister's office issued a response contradicting Peled's remark. "Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu wishes to make clear that the State of Israel has no desire for any conflict with Lebanon,” it said.
While it is natural for Netanyahu's office to announce the desire to not have a war, the facts and situation on the ground are all pointing to a soon to be war between Israel and her enemies. These enemies that are amassed around Israel are all of the same enemies mentioned in the Psalm 83 prophecy that have also been historical enemies of Israel in the ancient past. It would seem to me that something serious is about to take place in the region as the amount of weapons being stockpiled can only mean one thing - war. I was recently reminded of a prophecy found in Amos 1:3 where Damascus is warned about a fourth transgression against God's people. The prophecy in Amos 1:3 states:
Amo 1:3 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof;
This prophecy coupled with the one given by the prophet Isaiah could very well be a strong warning to Damascus and her leaders to not mess with the apple of God's eyes. It could also be a strong indication that things will reach a very serious level in the next conflict, a level never before seen in the Middle East. But somehow I don't think the enemies of Israel will listen. The prophet Isaiah warns about the "burden" of Damascus and how one day it will cease to be a city and nothing more than a "ruinous heap" which will remain uninhabited. Let's take a look at this prophecy from Isaiah 17.
Isa 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
This prophecy is extraordinary in that currently Damascus is the world's longest constantly inhabited city on earth. In light of this prophecy, this is nothing less than astonishing that the Bible would make such a claim. But nothing is too astonishing for the Lord we serve. He has a 100% accuracy rate when it comes to foretelling and fulfilling Bible prophecy. And with the current tension in the region, we can be sure that one day this prophecy will be fulfilled to the exact word. In fact, over the last few days we've seen articles that have suggested that Syria is anticipating an Israeli strike on Damascus should hostilities break out. This article comes from the AhlulBayt News Agency which reports:
In an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai published on Sunday, a US official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that “if Syria supplies Hezbollah with surface-to-air missiles (SA-2), war will break out and Tel Aviv will directly strike Damascus.” In addition, the official said Syria trained Hezbollah members in Damascus on how to use the SA-2 missiles. Israel has previously warned the country not to supply Hezbollah with the missiles, according to the US source.
“Any possible military attack by Hezbollah against Israel will be met by a ‘harmful war’ on Lebanon. Israel made a mistake in 2006 by not striking Syria during the war with Lebanon, and any new attack from Hezbollah against it will not spare Damascus from a strike,” he added.
Well, if that article doesn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will. It appears tension on the broder right now with Israel and the proxy terrorist organizations is so thick you could cut it with a knife. As we can see from these articles if Damascus does indeed meet their fate with destiny as foretold by Isaiah 17, it will be because they have a long history of striking out against God's people and as foretold by Amos that will result in their judgment and punishment. With Syrian President Assad currently right in the middle of all of this making one defense pact after another with Israel's enemies, it does not take a lot of imagination to see this prophecy being fulfilled soon if indeed a conflict arises and things do spiral out of hand. Assad is a very evil man and is just as anti-semitic as the next terrorist leader. Syria is a state sponsor of terrorism in that they host numerous international terrorist groups in Damascus, including the heads of Hamas and Hezbollah among others. For this reason it is quite possible that they will soon pay the price for this. God is not mocked and he will at the time of his choosing pass his judgment on those who are wicked and evil. Damascus surely has a date with destiny that won't be denied. As we know from Genesis 12:3, God will bless those who bless Israel, and he will curse those who curse Israel. It's never good to be on the opposite side of the Lord.
In one other final article that shows that conflict in the Middle East region is likely to be the main agenda of 2010, the Jerusalem Post is reporting that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is being quoted saying that Israel may end up acting militarily against Iran due to the current diplomatic stalemate in trying to reign in the illegal Iranian nuclear program. The Jerusalem Post reports:
French President Nicolas Sarkozy assessed that Israel "would not stand by while Iran develops nuclear weapons," Al Hayat quoted sources close to the French leader on Saturday. "Israel might take action to prevent the Iranian regime, which wants to wipe it off the map of the world, from obtaining a nuclear bomb," Sarkozy reportedly explained to visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Sa'ad Hariri. According to Saturday's report in the London-based Arab daily, Sarkozy told Hariri that France had proof that Teheran was working to develop a nuclear bomb.
Whether Israel acts soon against Iran only time will tell. But whether it is Iran or the proxy terrorists on it's border, the Israelis have their backs up against the wall right now as appeasement to the international community and to the Palestinian leaders has really left the Israelis in a hole. But despite these diplomatic and military mistakes, Israel has the best diplomat and military leader at it's disposal in the God of Israel, who neither sleeps or slumbers, he has got the backs of the Israelis covered. He has promised that since he has called them back into the land a second time that he will not allow them to be dispersed again nor destroyed. While things will not be rosy and without bloodshed, the ultimate restoration of Israel will eventually occur. The enemies of Israel will be defeated one by one as God works both behind the scenes and in front of the scenes during the coming Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38-39 conflicts. While the storm clouds darken the horizon, we know that the author of our salvation will keep his promises and in the end things will be alright.
Let us continue to watch the situation in the Middle East and continue to pray for Israel. Let us also pray for the salvation of the lost as we near the end times finish line. And remember to keep looking up, as your redemption is drawing nigh. God bless you.
