The Rapture Report - Russian President in First-Ever Visit to PA, Supports Palestinian Statehood

Russian President in First-Ever Visit to PA, Supports Palestinian Statehood
Written: 01-18-2011
Rapture Forum Staff: Chris

Today it is being reported that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited with the Palestinian Authority in Jericho. The Russian leader is in the region visiting several states but was unable to meet with Israel due to the Israeli Foreign Ministry strike that is currently underway. As a result, Medvedev will not meet with Israeli PM Netanyahu. The purpose of the Russian President's visit was to express and reaffirm support of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as it's capital. The Israel National News reports:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev reassured Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday that his country recognizes the PA as a state. He is on his first-ever visit to the PA, but an Israeli Foreign Ministry strike prevented the preparations for his planned trip to Israel and has barred him from meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres.

Media touted Medvedev’s recognition, but it was déjà vu. "Russia stated its position on this issue in the 1980s, in the last century, and we fully support the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to the establishment of an independent, united and viable state with east Jerusalem as its capital," the Russian leader said in Jericho, where he dedicated a Russian-funded museum.

It is noteworthy with the recent South American countries recognizing Palestine, that the Soviet Union was one of the first supporters of this from the time Yasser Arafat announced a declaration of independence in Algiers in 1988. With today's announcement, Medvedev reaffirmed the official Soviet response from 1988. In looking at this it appears that the Palestinians are trying feverishly to get as many countries as they can to recognize Palestine in order to try to pressure the Israelis in meeting their demands. The Israelis have so far refused Abbas' demands and thus it appears that the Palestinians have moved on from direct negotiations to trying to "arm-twist" Israel into accepting an agreement. In addition to encouraging countries to recognize Israel, the Palestinians are also trying to get the UN to pass a resolution condemning any further Israeli building in the Jerusalem area. The U.S. for it's part has warned the Palestinians about trying to win support for such a resolution as the U.S. has veto power in the UNSC. However, the current U.S. administration has not officially stated whether they will block such a resolution despite the warnings to the Palestinians to not go that route.

The issue of bypassing direct negotiations and going on a "public relations" tour of the world in order to win support that could not be won at the negotiations table is a bad situation for Israel. The support the Palestinians have gotten from most South American countries is the recognition of a Palestinian state on 1967 border with east Jerusalem as it's capital. This is exactly what Israel and the PA could not agree to in direct and indirect talks. The reason for the Israeli rejection of such borders is that it does not provide for reasonable security for the current Israeli state.

The Bible predicts and we are seeing it before out very eyes, that in the last days the status of Jerusalem would become that of a "burdensome stone" and that all those who try to divide or interfere with it would be cut to pieces. The Bible says:

Zec 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah [and] against Jerusalem. Zec 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

The Bible is very clear that Jerusalem and Israel will be of great interest to the world. That all the nations that try to disrupt her will "cut in pieces" which in effect will be "all the people of the earth..." This passage shows us that while we see tremendous pressure being applied to Israel, that the worse is yet to come. and that includes the worse for the enemies of Israel. God has a special place in his heart for Jerusalem and that he will not allow the city to be taken forever or destroyed again. For this matter I believe we are seeing the continuing and increased pressure that will finally lead to God intervening on Israel's behalf. The world is growing more and more anti-semitic with each passing day and the threat of more nations recognizing and going along with the Palestinians sinister plans grows with each passing day. In fact, there is an article today that suggests that as a result of the South American countries recent recognition of Israel, that it is expected that the European Union will follow soon. The Jerusalem Post is reporting:

Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Yuval Diskin said on Tuesday that he believed that international recognition of a Palestinian state will spread. In his remarks during a meeting of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee he said others including European countries could join the South American countries' recognition of a Palestinian state. "The UN General Assembly may declare a Palestinian state within 1967 borders as early as September," warned Diskin, according to Army Radio.

I believe that the further recognition of a Palestinian state is very possible and pretty much assured given these remarks in the newspapers. These remarks match the passages from Zechariah that confirm that all the people of the world will focus their attention on Jerusalem and Israel. The reason many are burdening themselves with Jerusalem and Israel is that they see a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem as the solution to terrorism and it's symptoms. The Palestinians and Islamists refer to the conflict repeatedly in their talks with the West and the rest of the world. While the establishment of a Palestinian state is the first step for the Islamists, the ultimate goal is the eventual destruction of Israel. The moves being taken by the Palestinians are calculated to help move towards that direction. But as we see from the Bible, god will have alternative plans for those who try to go against his Word.

Another thing to think about is that as we see the Russian President making his first ever visit to the Palestinian Authority, one can't help but notice an increased activity of Russia in the region and with that the prophecies of Ezekiel 38-39 that mention a Russia led invasion of Israel from the north. It should be apparent to those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear, that the Russians are slowly but surely positioning themselves for their fatal showdown with the God of Israel per Ezekiel 38-39. While this situation might still be off in the future a little ways, we know what the end result will be when God supernaturally intervenes and destroys the Russian led moslem coalition.

Let us continue to pray for the peace of Israel and especially the peace of Jerusalem. The last days are upon us as the players move into their final positions for the final scenes of this age. As always, keep looking up, your redemption is drawing nigh!

God bless.
