The Cult of the Rapture?
By Chris Schang
One of the most ridiculous claims by proponents of the no rapture theory and by people who believe that all prophecy was fulfilled by 70 AD is that they say the the cult of the rapture exists. This type of attack on the doctrine of the rapture, which is strongly support in the Bible, is simply a last ditch effort to defend their unsound and unbiblical interpretations.
We have shown before theta the rapture is supported by numerous scriptures in the Bible. Just a few of them are listed below:
1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1Cr 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
1Cr 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Cr 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Cr 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality.
1Cr 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
After looking at the above scriptures it is clearly shown that the doctrine of the rapture is both sound and biblical. However, there will always been in every discussion that small group of people who will argue from weak point of view and think they are right. I could say the sky is blue today and there will be some guy who out there somewhere that will argue that it is brown. We all have run into these people and we all know how frustrating they can be. But even so it is important to show why the rapture is indeed a sound and biblical concept, even if the answer will never satisfy everyone.
So the question asked is about the cult of the rapture. The cult of the rapture does exist, but it's not the people who believe in it, but rather the people who argue against such a fundamental concept supported by the Bible. Just as there are other Christian cults who promote faith plus works, a different Jesus, etc there is a cult of the rapture that tries to minimize and destroy what is clearly taught in the Bible.
So the next time you hear some one claiming that the people who believe in a rapture of the church are part of a cult of the rapture, I would advise them to run fast in the other direction. As we get closer and closer to the blessed hope in these last days, the Bible declares that people will fall away from sound doctrine and entertain the doctrines of devils and demons. This my friends, is the true cult of the rapture. Be alert and be aware, they are everywhere.
